An Interview Checklist

Before the Interview

  1. Research the Company

    • Understand the company's mission, vision, values, and culture.
    • Look up recent news, projects, and notable achievements.
    • Familiarize yourself with the products or services they offer.
  2. Know the Job Description

    • Review the job description in detail.
    • Identify key skills and requirements; think of examples where you've demonstrated them.
    • Prepare questions based on the role’s duties and requirements.
  3. Review Your Resume and Cover Letter

    • Be ready to discuss any point listed, including skills, experience, and achievements.
    • Ensure you can elaborate on how past roles align with this opportunity.
  4. Prepare STAR Method Responses

    • Structure answers to behavioral questions using the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method.
    • Practice examples of how you've handled challenges, worked in a team, led projects, etc.
  5. Research Your Interviewers

    • Look them up on LinkedIn to understand their background and role within the company.
    • Make a note of anything in common or anything impressive about their work.
  6. Prepare Your Own Questions

    • Ask about team structure, daily responsibilities, career growth, company culture, etc.
    • Avoid questions about salary and benefits in early interview stages.

The Day Before the Interview

  1. Plan Your Outfit

    • Choose attire that fits the company culture (business casual, formal, etc.).
    • Make sure everything is clean, wrinkle-free, and ready to go.
  2. Confirm Interview Details

    • Verify the time, location, or video conferencing link.
    • Double-check time zone differences if it’s a virtual interview.
  3. Organize Necessary Documents

    • Print copies of your resume, cover letter, and any portfolio pieces (if applicable).
    • Bring a notebook, pen, and a list of questions you want to ask.
  4. Prepare Technology (For Virtual Interviews)

    • Test your camera, microphone, and internet connection.
    • Find a quiet, well-lit, and distraction-free space.
  5. Sleep Well

    • Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep to ensure you’re rested and alert.

During the Interview

  1. Arrive Early

  3. Follow-Up (If Necessary)
